About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

When Ministry and the Revolting Cocks were offering what could be described as industrial noise for people who weren't industrial fans, Skinny Puppy continued to thrive on the extreme and remained far to the left of rock's center. Employing more bass than Puppy's previous albums, Too Dark Park has a bit of a funk element. But make no mistake: The industrial agitators (who had influenced Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, RevCo, Godflesh, and numerous others) were hardly going after rock's mainstream. Forceful and consistently abrasive, these twisted and disturbing collages of samples, electronics, distortion, and heavy guitars push the limits of rock and are about as hardcore as it gets. Those who have only a slight interest in industrial would probably be better off starting out with the more accessible Ministry, but this is a CD that the more seasoned industrial aficionados shouldn't miss. January 23, 2003: too dark park is by far the most intense album skinny puppy ever released. VIVIsect VI is, by most fans standards, the "definitive" album, but TDP shows a much stronger and cohesive songwriting style. it touches on the experimentality of last rights, without falling prey to techno or self indulgent experimentalization. a very powerful group of songs--searing in their power--but best felt in headphones. in my opinion, their masterpiece...but, then, there's a new album coming out in 2003...

March 26, 2001: Many people say this is the best Puppy album; I don't know if it's the best, but it's definitely the most regular and darker. Here there's no bad song at all. Since the beginnine, this album makes me forget about their previous one, 'Rabies', which was their worst. 'TDP' is full of hard electronics, hard distorted guitars (but they are better mixed than in 'Rabies'), agressive voice and noise. 'Convulsion' opens the cd with agressiveness and brutality: noise made of guitars, agressive voice... Then 'Tormentor' starts the real masterpiece; it's smoother than the first track but more effective. 'Nature's Revenge' and 'Grave Wisdom' are another highlights in this opus; Ogre's voice is graver than ever, and gets immerswed with the noise perfectly. TDP is the most conceptual Puppy album though also the least diverse, but if you like one of this songs you like them all.
