About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

With its slinky dance grooves, wailing rock guitars, and roaring ballads, Cry completes country superstar Faith Hill's transformation into a pop diva. For her hotly anticipated follow-up to the multiplatinum Grammy winner Breathe, she plays down her country roots -- a mandolin plinking away amid fuzzed-out guitars and shimmering vocal production on the defiant testimonial "This Is Me" is about as close to the heartland as Cry gets. Otherwise, Hill spotlights her impressive set of pipes, whether she's pleading for reconciliation in the anthemic "Back to You" or dreaming of payback for her broken heart in the blistering title tune, alternating hushed verses with angry, jut-jawed choruses atop pounding drums and a soaring guitar lead. The sexy spoken-word intro to the love ballad "Beautiful" sets up a nice change of pace, a poignant acoustic guitar solo and a nicely modulated vocal by Hill on the luxurious choruses accentuating the mix. She's equally successful on "Unsaveable," a contemporary R&B breakup number, and "Stronger," a soul ballad to rival Wynonna's best. But the highest point on this sweeping disc is "You're Still Here," a heartbreaking memory of, apparently, a deceased lover. Hill, in softening her attack, gets right to the core of the heartbreak, her voice cracking just so as strings softly rise and a haunting, lonely oboe line flitters across the soundscape. It's a stunner, the most dramatic example here of how Hill, who co-produced the album, uses all the technology available to her in the right way, without ever losing her soul to it. Playing to her strengths with style and substance, Faith Hill gives fans nothing to cry about with her latest. David McGee, Barnes & Noble

August 01, 2006: I love all of Faith's music but I really love to see her in concert. She doesn't hold back and really belts it out. What a voice!!!! Her duets with Tim are so intimate you feel like your intruding!!!! I hear their concerts are sell outs and I'm not surprised.

March 17, 2006: When "Cry" came out, I saw the front cover of the album, and it scared me away from buying the CD. Faith Hill just did not look like herself--however, one cannot judge a CD by the front of its cover. I recently purchased "Cry" and I am surprised and pleased at the same time. The lyrics are beautiful and thought provoking-just listen to "When the Lights Go Down" or "This is Me". "Cry" is more of a pop album but for people who are die-hard Faith Hill fans, you will love this album!
