About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

While En Vogue set the standard for '90s girl groups with powerhouse voices, TLC did the same for girls who got by on musical savvy and attitude. Their second recording, Crazysexycool marks their maturity from the sorority house loopiness that characterized their debut Ooooooohhh...On the TLC Tip. Each of the major singles from this 1994 release: "Creep," "Waterfalls," "Red Light Special," and "Diggin on You," was a landmark. The latter pair dug back into soul and blues conventions; "Creep," was their funkiest track to date, and "Waterfalls," was one of the most graceful efforts at social commentary in mid '90s pop (hey! Where'd the bombast go?). In addition--and sadly, this is a rarity for the genre--the other tracks are substantial adding and commenting on great R&B tracks of the past. Although many took this trio lightly at first, Crazysexycool is TLC's demand to be taken seriously; they see themselves are part of the great black music continuum. Martin Johnson, Barnes & Noble

February 16, 2005: wow! this cd is a classic! even though it's old now, i still like to pop it in my cd player now and then. all around, this cd is wonderful. there's no need to skip through any songs. i love the remake of "case of the fake people" and the remake of prince's "if i was your girlfriend." I love the slow, romantic feel to "take our time". i love the upbeat "switch" and "kick your game" and the chilling but the reality of "sumthin wicked this way comes." in my opinion, csc is one of the best girl group cds to date!
