About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Released in 1969, Santana's first album shot the group from local San Francisco band status to a worldwide forum. Included are the group's first hits ("Evil Ways" and "Soul Sacrifice") and others that combine Latin grooves with a rock sensibility. [The remastered CD also adds three bonus tracks recorded live at Woodstock in 1969, "Savor," "Soul Sacrifice," and "Fried Neckbones."] Cub Koda, All Music Guide

one of my favorite albums ever - great instrumentalsby vanderROCK

December 30, 2009: Carlos Santana probably doesnt even make my top 10 of personal favorite artists, but this album is one of my favorite albums of all time. Soul Sacrifice and Treat are the highlights of the album for me. Both are awesome instrumentals that are much different. Treat is heavy on the piano, while Soul Sacrifice prominently features characteristic Santana percussion, organ and guitar. I also enjoy Shades of Time/Savor. Fried Neckbones and Homefries is the best of the bonus tracks that were not included on the original album. My least favorite track on the entire CD is probably Evil Ways, which speaks volumes considering Evil Ways is one of the most played Santana songs on classic rock radio. If you enjoy instrumental classic rock, you must buy this CD.

July 26, 2009: This is a great album and it is included in the "Santana: The Woodstock Experience" box which makes this single CD rather obsolete.

I Also Recommend: At Fillmore East [Deluxe Edition], Woodstock Experience, The Woodstock Experience.
