Editorial Reviews

Decades before the term "crossover" was applied to music, Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra cross-pollinated popular and classical styles and pleased hordes of fans in the process. It didn't matter whether he was conducting Beethoven or bossa nova, the "1812" Overture or "Moon River," the mustachioed maestro gave every piece of music the same vitality and verve. The arrangements often laid it on a bit thick, but with the recent revival of lounge music, that may be more of an attraction than a liability. On this recording, Sheriff Fiedler gets the orchestra's guns a-blazing with a program of songs from the Wild West, including "Home on the Range," "Deep in the Heart of Texas," "Red River Valley" and "Whoopie-Ti-Yi-Yo." Enough said? Andrew Farach-Colton, Barnes & Noble

August 29, 2009: Only the Boston Pops could give to us such an eclectic mix of music which is all but forgotten. So many tunes that will bring back memories.
