This album gets my highest recommendation: If you've never heard the Vigilantes of Love, check them out with Audible Sigh! Audible Sigh, like everything by this brilliant yet poorly represented/distributed southern rock band, is underrated. The Vigilantes of Love are an ''unknown'', but not because of the quality of their music. This particular album is produced by the reknowned Buddy Miller and features Julie Miller providing her inimitable BGVs -- a perfect complement to Bill Mallonee's voice. VOL is generally known for its rock songs, featuring desperate vocals accompanied by a driving beat and jangly guitars. But its finest moments on this album are its slower tunes with emotional melodies that will permanently hook you after a few listens. VOL is also remarkable for its lyrics -- thoughtful, bitter, devil-may-care, heart-on-sleeve, unconventional... they won't insult your intelligence and they might touch your heart. Recommended songs: Resplendent (historical story based on preserved journals) Could Be a Lot Worse (''hope is like a thing untamed that lays to waste your heart'') Solar System (gorgeous love song - ''well put all your love where it hurts the most... when your short-wave dies and there's no one to listen, the stars going cold in your solar system'') Discover the Vigilantes of Love!!!

This is a great album. I love the sound and the background vocals by Emmylou Harris and Julie Miller. This is definately my favorite VOL album. Probably the best song is 'Resplendent', but they all are superb! If you have never heard this band, this is a good place to start!
