Editorial Reviews

Dreamworld: Essential Late Night Listening offers a hip twist on late-night listening compilations -- which are usually the domain of classical, jazz, or new age music -- and gathers a nocturnal collection of trip-hop, electronica, dream pop and indie rock. Massive Attack's classic "Protection," Tricky's "Hell Is Around the Corner," Moby's "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad," and Hooverphonic's "2Wicky" are some of the compilation's more beat-driven offerings, while Dead Can Dance's "The Host of the Seraphim," the Cocteau Twins' "Frou-Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires," and Sheila Chandra's "Ever So Lonely/Eyes/Ocean" offer a richly ethereal nighttime experience. Luna's "Sweet Child O' Mine," Spiritualized's "All of My Tears," and Sparklehorse's "Sad & Beautiful World" complete the album with a trio of sweetly dreamy rock songs, and while Dreamworld isn't quite as personalized as a friend's late-night mix tape, it does provide an eclectic sampling of contemporary nighttime sounds.
