About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

For the Roots' second major-label album, the band apparently recognized the weaknesses of the debut, since there are several songs which provide more structure than previous jam-session efforts -- two even became R&B radio hits. But for all its successes, Illadelph Halflife mostly repeats the long-winded jams and loose improvisatory feel that characterized Do You Want More?!!!??!. And while these songs may sound great live (a field where the Roots excel over any other rap act), in a living-room setting listeners need hooks on which to focus. John Bush, All Music Guide

October 08, 2007: I would highly recommend this album to anyone that has a passion for REAL hip hop music! The roots laid this album down! From start to finish, every track is outstanding!

March 09, 2000: I was going to recommend some tracks to peep but I had to stop because there are so many! This is a really great album! The Roots are in a class by themselves and you see them perhaps in their finest form(check the live album because they run neck and neck). The guest appearences by Common, Bahamadia, Raphael Saddiq, D'Angelo and Amel Larriuex just set this album off even more. Black Thought and Malik B. as well as the band itself reach another level. Once again this IS hip hop in it's finest form.
