    Editorial Reviews

Composer Shigeru Umebayashi (Mood for Love, House of the Flying Daggers) paints director Wong Kar Wai's surreal sci-fi/drama/romance 2046 with such a sepia-toned brush that it's hard to think of it as a modern soundtrack. Like a tear in the fabric of the Silver Screen, Umebayashi somehow manages to evoke the romance of old Hollywood, the unpredictability of French cinema, and the sinewy world of David Lynch with both confidence and fluidity. Even the selections by other artists (Connie Francis, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole) sound as if they were coaxed out of the film as opposed to being inserted in it. Reverend Lee Power, All Music Guide

January 30, 2007: When I first saw the movie 2046 I was truely entralled with the director's ability to manipulate the audience as well as the images. However beyond this, the music is what made me play it obsessivly in the background. I at first did not think to look for the soundtrack, but now that I have found it I'm off to the nearest Barnes to pick it up.
