The Veggie Tales gang deliver a cornucopia of Christmas harmonies and hijinks in Veggie Tales: A Very Veggie Christmas. This isn't your garden-variety collection of Christmas carols but a fun-filled romp through seasonal favorites that offers hours of entertainment for youngsters and their parents. The Veggie Tales are best known for their jubilant Christian message of goodwill and have won over a large audience with their entertaining antics. The impassioned, spunky performances from the likes of Larry the Cucumber, Bob the Tomato, the French Peas, and Junior Asparagus will trigger sing-alongs, giggles, and introspection alike as the between-song dialogue touches on subjects both silly and serious. There's plenty of adult humor, too, including an encounter with the IRS and an ode to the virtues of Stain Master carpeting (which proves itself after a flock of sheep invades the party). The Veggies take on familiar classics such as "Away in a Manger," "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "Feliz Navidad" (replete with a mini language lesson), and "Angels We Have Heard On High," which they render with a snazzy Jamaican flair. Lyrics and commentary for "The Boar's Head Carol" prove delightfully disgusting, while several songs, including "Grumpy Kids" and "Oh Santa!," reflect upon the true spirit of Christmas. Rounding out the fun is "The 8 Polish Foods of Christmas," an amusing takeoff on the classic "Twelve Days of Christmas." Wacky, winsome, and wonderful, this holiday collection is destined to become a classic.

Goofy and slightly annoying collection of holiday tunes featuring the garden-based cast of loony characters. Only roughly half of the 26 tracks on this album include actual music. The rest is the cast of characters talking with such racket to inspire the listener to skip over to the next track featuring music. However, one gets the fun, frenetic feel they can expect from the popular religious-themed children's video series. Nevertheless, this album is recommended for the video series' fans only. Dacia A.
