Not to be confused with the John Barry score for the film that was released in 1968 (also on Varese Sarabande on CD in 1990), this is Richard Hartley's score for the Hallmark Entertainment television adaptation. That doesn't mean that Hartley's score doesn't have merit; it does. It's full of moody drama, tense moments, spare, pregnant pauses, and glorious crescendos. For those who were fans of the Barry score, the lighter moments here aren't quite as bright, while the more anguished ones are made more so. Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
