Editorial Reviews

The second film in the Omen trilogy reunites composer Jerry Goldsmith with that mischievous, rambunctious kid Damien for what would prove the most experimental and challenging score in the series. Its otherworldly choral elements and discordant electronic effects boast a palpable sense of malice and dread. Goldsmith plainly relishes the opportunity to create such dark music. Themes like "Broken Ice," "Shafted," and "A Ravenous Killing" positively luxuriate in their own unpleasantness, energized by the demon-spawn glee that lurks at the film's core. Varèse Sarabande's stellar 2001 deluxe reissue includes the original score recording (lost for many years due to mislabeling by the Fox studio archivists) as well as a subsequent re-recording cut with London's National Philharmonic Orchestra.
