On Robertinho Silva's first U.S. release as a leader, he distilled the varied influences of some 25 years as a major player on the Brazilian scene. Tunes from a number of composers, including Milton Nascimento and Wayne Shorter, both honor his associates and allow Silva to demonstrate his facility in diverse genres. A large supporting cast of musicians, including Nascimento, Egberto Gismonti, and José Bertrami show up to augment the basic band from track to track. Not as sure-footed or cohesive as the follow-up, Shot on Goal, this is nonetheless an impressive debut, well worth a listen. Janet Rosen, All Music Guide
