About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Christian pop-punk band Relient K retool their feel-good pep and smart-aleck songwriting on MMHMM. The guys have grown considerably over the past four years, and while there's still some rebellious 'tude weaving through these 14 tracks, there's also a more serious, reflective message here. It's heard on songs like "Be My Escape," which interlaces pounding guitar riffs with anthemic piano-based melodies that lift up lyrics whose simplicity belies their depth. It takes a lot of maturity to see the truth behind lines such as "The beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair," even more to follow such a message with a song like "High of 75," in which the singer wonders if his moods are real or just a response to seasonal affective disorder. Eschewing established CCM convention, Relient K explore issues beyond the spiritual. There are pointed observations on a variety of themes, from relationships ("I tried to hold your hand but you'd rather hold your grudge,") to politics ("paper, rock and scissors, they all have their pros and cons"). Relient K have long been a favorites among alt-rock loving Christian audiences, and MMHMM shows the love is well deserved. Lisa Zhito, Barnes & Noble

July 04, 2009: When i had to find a gift for my cousin's graduation party i remembered how she would ramble on and on about Relient K. She said she had some of the newer cds by them but not some of the older ones. So i bought two copies of this cd to see if they were any good. And they are. "Be My Escape" is a great song. And "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" It's a perfect gift for anyone. And well RelientK is now one of my favorite bands.

I Also Recommend: The Bird and the Bee Sides.

January 13, 2007: Relient K newest album 'Mmhmm' is great cd. With two songs that reached Top 4O (Be My Escape & Who I Am Hates Who I've Been) which also did well on Christian radio also. They are serious with songs Let It All Out and When I Go Down but they never forget how to add a few laugh with songs like My Girlfriend's Ex-Boyfriend and High of 75. One of the best noticed band within the last few years i would say. If you end up liking this album, make sure you look into getting their new cd "Five Scores and Seven Years Ago" in March 2007!!!
