Home Music Artist Biography: Eric Barber

Eric Barber

Eric Barber

Saxophonist Eric Barber refuses to be tied down to a single style, as he has worked with a diverse array of musicians in the past. A regular stage performer, Barber has played throughout the U.S. and Canada - including high profile gigs at the Knitting Factory New York, DuMaurier International Jazz Festival, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Eddie Moore Jazz Festival. The fact that Barber can handle just about any musical style put in front of him is evidenced by the artists he's played with over the years, including Nels Cline, Ry Cooder, Vinny Golia, John Lee Hooker, the California Ear Unit, and Glen Velez, among others. Additionally, Barber has collaborated with musicians from such exotic locales as India and the Balkans, while also regularly contributing to the ongoing projects We Are Not Mailmen (including Arthur Jarvinen on analog electronics) and Trio Teghea (featuring Miroslav Tadic on guitar and John Bergamo on percussion). Barber also teaches music to others and has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Oregon and a Master of Fine Arts in Jazz and African-American Music from California Institute of the Arts. 1999 saw the release of the solo Barber collection, Slippage: Solo Works 1991-1999, on the Recondite label.
