Michael Avery

Michael Avery's first big break was as the lead vocalist on Wrecking Crew's the funky "Found a Groove," from the Pixie Dust album on the Sounds of Florida label. Other tracks from the album that enjoyed considerable airplay were the title song "Chance to Dance," and "Seasons" -- both charted nationally. Avery's early vocal influence was Russell Thompkins of the Stylistics. During his eight years with Wrecking Crew, he got the opportunity to meet and work with Thompkins. His music career started in 1974 at Farragut High School on the west side of Chicago. His brother and three other young men started a male vocal group called the First Five. They eventually became Superior Movement who had two 1981 Billboard charting singles, "For You" and "Wide Shot," on the CIM label. Ed Hogan
