ARTIST TO WATCH: Santé
WHY WE'RE WATCHING: Stephanie Santé blasts deep into the space music scene with her debut album, Into Light. Fueled by a conservatory education in guitar and voice, a passion for science fiction, and a bent for taking spiritual journeys, Santé's music is evocative and amazingly mature. Equipped with her MIDI-controlled Fender Stratocaster guitar, Into Light offers a variety of musical voyages into the depths of nature, the realm of the celestial bodies, and the domain of the heart. DON'T MISS TRACK: “Cetacea” is a gorgeous, mind-bending 3-D exploration of a whale’s inner life. Using samples of songs from Alaskan whales, Santé sends her cetaceans sailing through thunderclaps into the depths of cosmic understanding. WHERE SHE'S BEEN: Santé loves traveling through the Western U.S. to bask in the grandeur of nature. “One of the most amazing journeys was to the Keet Seel Anasazi Cliff Dwelling in Arizona," says the Wisconsin-born musician. "It was a very profound spiritual experience, and it influenced the track "Anasazi" on Into Light.” WHERE SHE'S GOING: Santé draws inspiration from her inner journeys. “I am always busy in my music studio working, sculpting new sounds that reflect my meditative and emotive states," the artist explains. "These inner journeys provide a wealth of imagery and expression which feed my artistic spirit." HER MAJOR INFLUENCES: "Metaphysics, ancient cultures, science fiction, spiritual teachings, and the beauty of our natural universe.” She draws inspiration from both music and the written word. Favorites include novelists Daniel Quinn, Ursula LeGuin, and Herman Hesse, guitarist Jimi Hendrix, jazz legend Miles Davis, and electronic composer Vangelis. WHAT REALLY, REALLY BOTHERS HER: Computer problems, scheduling her life by the clock, living in a box, pollution, disrespect for life, and lack of love. HER LIFE'S PASSION: "Music and spirituality go hand in hand," she says. "Both are the turnstiles of my existence and as important to me as breathing. I enjoy deep, long lasting friendships, which are as vital to me as family. My life partner is a heavenly blessing, and our relationship enhances all aspects of my life." Carol Wright |
