About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Its tough to pigeonhole Dwight's solo acoustic set on DWIGHTYOAKAMACOUSTIC.NET. Inspired by the enthusiastic response to his solo concert closers on the 1999 "Last Chance" tour, its not exactly a live album. And though it kicks through 25 songs from his 15-year recording career, it is not a standard greatest hits package. In the end it combines the best of both these things, an alternately bristling and haunting portrait of the artist that highlights his excellent songs and remarkable voice. And oh, that voice! Long acknowledged as one of the best vocal interpreters in late 20th-century country, Yoakam displays his vocal talents here as never before. The beers-and-tears classic "Two Doors Down" shows that the Kentucky-by-way-of-Bakersfield crooner learned his George Jones ballad delivery lessons well. "Little Sister," featuring producer Pete Anderson's lone guitar solo on the disc, demonstrates Yoakam's seamless integration of Elvis's mumbling growl. "Sad, Sad Music" with its simple boom-chick guitar and falsetto leaps, almost channels the enduring blue yodel of Jimmie Rodgers. Just listen to the emotional twists and turns of Yoakam's voice on the album closer, an a cappella "Guitars, Cadillacs," then try to find a contemporary country singer who can match his innovative interpretive skills. In a world of slick country production, DWIGHTYOAKAMACOUSTIC.NET offers a peek behind the proverbial curtain and reveals that, yes, Dwight's really that good. This disc is an intimate treasure. July 24, 2000: Dwight Yoakam is as authentic as they come. In an industry where flash lands the prize, Yoakam has put out one of the most revealing and genuine albums of recent memory. You can almost see him sitting on a stool in a smokey bar singing to a nearly empty room. The most wonderful thing about this album is that it makes you believe that he would prefer to sing to a few true believers rather than a stadium full of automatons. This is an album for those who love music and love music that makes an impact. Songs like Readin, Rightin, Rt.23, Bury Me and 1000 Miles from Nowhere take you to another place. And you have no choice but to return changed. This is not a greatest hits collection. It is a collection of Dwight's songs in their original form. The way he wrote many of them. Sitting on a stool, with his guitar and his experiences. Dwight proves that these are all he really needs to make incredible music.

July 04, 2000: I purchased this cd after hearing the suspicious minds song on the Barnes and noble site. It says to click hear to but this cd, however it does not have this song on it. That is false advertising if you ask me. The CD is very good but I do wosh the song they advertisied was also on the cd.
