Editorial Reviews

With You Don't Know How Blessed You Are, Gerald Hinton & the New Redeemers became the first vocal group to be signed to Savoy in 15 years. Hinton wrote and co-produced all but one of the album's 12 tracks, a cover of "Go the Distance" from the Disney feature Hercules that takes to Hinton and Denver A. Wright's contemporary gospel arrangement quite well. That's true for the rest of You Don't Know How Blessed You Are, too, which balances productions similar to those of Kirk Franklin and secular R&B artists, especially the vocal synthesis of "Surrender," with the more mature and measured approach of Hinton. It's not likely to have the crossover appeal of Franklin, but fans of the genre who seek it out will not be disappointed. Wade Kergan, All Music Guide
