About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The Hailey brothers aren't bashful about having only one thing on their minds -- the dramatic, string-laden intro to their third disc, X, is a forthright invitation to "make love tonight." Following in the vein of their previous discs, Love Always and It’s Real, X deals with affairs of both the heart and lower regions. The plaintive ballad "All the Things I Should Have Known" and the soaring lead single, "Crazy," are syrupy pleas for forgiveness, whereas the slinky, mid-tempo track "Get Back" and the up-tempo club-thumper "Thug N U Thug N You" (which features the late 2Pac) are steamy calls to do the horizontal mambo. Although they aren’t the most original lyrically -- the oddly romantic "Suicide" finds Jo-Jo beautifully crooning mildly warped lyrics, such as "I never thought of suicide until you took your love away" -- the contrast of K-Ci’s gravelly tenor with Jo-Jo’s graceful falsetto is what makes this duo memorable. And with new jack artists such as Sisqó admittedly biting K-Ci’s gut-wrenching delivery -- a trend K-Ci & Jo-Jo address on "Ooh Yeah" -- it’s apparent just how influential the music of these Jodeci frontmen has been. Although it’s rumored that a new Jodeci disc will be released sometime in 2001, for now X marks the spot for K-Ci and Jo-Jo fans. Tracy E. Hopkins, Barnes & Noble

August 15, 2001: X is the third serving from the Hailey brothers and the two brothers continue to illustrate their pain, happiness, and sorrow in soulful ballads. After a mood setting intro, the boys set the tone of the album with one of the album's highlight ''Honest Lover''. Other tracks such as the album's first single,''Crazy'' have the making of a megahit that is reminiscent of their first blockbuster song ''All My Life''. The album in general explores themes of regretting infedelity in ''Wanna Do You Right'' and regretting past mistakes in ''All the Things I Should Have Known.'' While Pain and Sorrow is a theme common in many of the tracks, the album does have a good share of party tracks that are perfectly crafted to get the crowd moving in the clubs. ''Thug N Me, Thug N You'' is a perfect example as the Jodeci members declare their sexual intentions with Mr. Tupac Shakur himself aiding them in their depiction of their bump and grind mind state. The deepest moment of the album, however, has to be the song ''Suicide''. It thoroughly illustrates the anguish of lost love that can push one to a point of carelessness and insanity. IF you enjoyed LOVE ALWAYS and ITS REAL, then you'll definitely be feeling this album, because after all is said and done its the best of all 3.
