In 2003, Michael W. Smith celebrated his second decade in the recording industry. Arguably Christian music's first real superstar, Smith has certainly earned a box set (and his fans deserve one). He's a multiple Grammy and Dove award winner, he has numerous crossover hits to his credit, has sold at platinum and gold levels, and in every way has come to embody what it means to be a star in the Christian music world. Well, the Worship Box Set isn't that box set; this two CD and one DVD collection focuses solely on Smith's three Worship projects. Granted, both Worship CDs became career achievements for Smith, outselling his previous CDs and earning him more Grammy and Dove awards for his mantle. The DVD showed fans a side of Smitty we had rarely seen before -- he doffed his pop-star / entertainer hat and jumped joyfully into his roll as worship leader. All three projects are deserving of every accolade they received, and for anyone wanting the quintessential Smitty Worship experience, this is certainly it. Yet, there are those of us who miss Smitty the pop star, who would love to revisit such synth-pop '80s classics as "Picture Perfect" and "Love One Another," or finally get their hands on such rarities as "Love Is Moving" (Smitty's soaring contribution to the Joshua soundtrack), and "Move In Me," from the 1995 multi-artist special project My Utmost For His Highest. Some of this stuff you just can't find anymore; it would be a shame if a new generation of fans never had a chance to hear it at all. Lisa Zhito, Barnes & Noble
