About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

None of these 12 self-professed "baebes" are classically trained singers or musicologists. In fact, only a few of the songs on Wordless Blysse are actually old; the rest were freshly composed by members of the ensemble, using medieval texts. But while it's a far cry from the refined sounds -- and scholarly approaches -- of Anonymous 4 and other echt early-music ensembles, these Mediaeval Baebes sing with appealing ethereal earthiness. The tunes are folksy and memorable. Piping recorders, jangling tambourines, the delicate pluck of zithers, and otherworldly sounding hurdy-gurdies add atmosphere and an enticing whiff of authenticity. Andrew Farach-Colton, Barnes & Noble
