About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Oceanborn wasn't just a hit in Finland, it also opened new doors for Nightwish abroad. So naturally, the pressure to come up with a comparable sophomore album was enormous. Rarely does a band fulfill the demands of a second album successfully, and Nightwish is no exception. Even though Wishmaster is mainly targeted to radio and pop audiences, it does succeed somewhat. Even more demanding listeners will find this as enjoyable as they did Oceanborn, but Wishmaster isn't as consistent as that album was. The same patterns repeat, and every track's hook is based on a powerful intro and a simple chorus. Their charm is in their overflowing drama and, as it was on their first album, the whole concept can be described as "operatic metal." It may sound inventive and full of potential for a while, but as a whole album (and with this release it's two albums), it can be a little annoying, even frustrating. Still, a lot of listeners will enjoy it; after all, it does have its moments. ~ Antti J. Ravelin, All Music Guide All Music Guide

February 15, 2005: I was into mainstream, but now I love bands like Nightwish, Sonata Artica, After Forever, Ortary, and many others. Anyway about this CD... Nightwish ROCKS! The album overall is excellent, and now I'll rate the songs i have listened to so far.(I got this CD yesterday). 1.She Is My Sin 10/10 This is a really cool song. I LOVE the chorus. Tarja sounds really good! 2.The Kinslayer 8/10 This is an okay song. The guy's voice is cool at first but then it gets annoying. But don't get me wrong, I think this is a creative song. 4. Wanderlust 10/10 I LOVE this song! The guitars are great, and the lyrics are so imagenative! #6 or 7.Wishmaster 7/10 I think the drums are really cool. But it would be sooo much better if the chourus wasn't done two times at the beginning. 8.Crownless 10/10 WOW!!! This is my fav. song on the CD so far! The guitars, lyrics, vocals, drums...everything is GREAT!!
