February 01, 2006: Speed of Sound is probably the most fun Wings album, a showcase of Paul's extensive range of musical ability, as well as his willingness to share the spotlight with his less-able bandmates. Opening with the beautiful, intriguingly hollow-sounding "Let 'Em In", the album does wonders for the mind. Low points: "The Note You Never Wrote"-Laine attempts to write a song, but on the next track, McCartney complete buries him with his superior songcraft. FAIL.

July 07, 2004: It is clear that Lennon and McCartney, as solo song writers, were not a half as valuable as their joint efforts. Nevertheless, the 3 best composers of the Beatles - namely John, Paul and George Harrison - achieved some briliant momentos in their solo careers. John had 2 gems with (almost Beatle-like album )Imagine and (confessional and espontaneous)Plastic Ono Band. George left his (ambitious and nice) All Things Must Pass and his (first charity rock concert ever) Concert for Bangladesh. Paul has been perhaps the more workaholic and the one who needs more continous recognition from fans. Therefore, he has been doing music, with ups and downs as every musician, but with a permanent attention to arrangements and production (possible exception is Wings Wild Life). His trilogy Band on the Rund, Venus and Mars and this Wings at the Speed of Sound were his best efforts in the 70s. At the Speed of Sound has a rock-style taste that will please those critics of the soft-pop McCartney. Additionaly, the album shares the lead vocals and even composition with other Wings member, including not only exMoody Blues Denny Lane, but also a composition by Jim McCulloch the once-youngest-guitar player of the 60s, whose song "Something in the Air" is one of the best remembraces from The Strawberry Statement. The album as a whole is remarkable and it can be considered a must in every Beatles fans collection. A pain are the bonus tracks, of scarce interest unless the Bonus tracks added to Band on the Run. McCartney´s production is clean and his more pop tunes Let´em in, Silly Love Songs and San FerryAnn are worthwhile. Beware my Love is one of his best balanced pieces and it is important to say that vocals are shared, but the composition efforts are still McCartney´s.
