About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

It just doesn't get any smoother than this. An undeniably romantic album, WINELIGHT is a satin-smooth collection of R & B-spiced jazz tunes best heard with the lights turned down. The Grammy-winning hit "Just the Two of Us, "which teams Washington, one of the contemporary jazz world's best-loved and most-respected saxophonists, with singer Bill Withers, may be the standout track, but dig deeper. On "Take Me There," the Philly-based saxophonist creates a captivating tune by combining jazz with a light funk groove; "Make Me a Memory (Sad Samba)" is a Latin-tinged beauty that manages somehow to be simultaneously melancholy and lively. And "Let It Flow (for Dr. J)" pays homage to the basketball hero who made history when he played for Washington's beloved Philadelphia 76ers - a lovely tribute from one great artist to another.
