Editorial Reviews

R. Carlos Nakai teams with Tibetan trumpet and flute master Nawang Khechog to offer healing chants and inspirational prayers that emphasize wisdom and compassion. The duo gets supporting help from Chris White's sirenlike vocals, which add a lovely ambience, and David Darling's soaring cello. But this impressive convergence of Himalayan and Native American healing music gets its biggest lift from Peter Kater. A frequent Nakai collaborator, Kater's touch is not immediately obvious; he plays synthesizer and sings background vocals, but it is his sensitive arrangements that create the respectful pulsating and womblike space of this recording. WINDS OF DEVOTION is soft enough to play for background music yet focused enough for use in meditation. Carol Wright, Barnes & Noble
