About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Raise Hell's third album, 2002's Wicked Is My Game, opens with dual lead guitars harmoniously executing a distinctly familiar melody, which, after a few furrowed-brow moments, reveals itself to be a none-too-discreet adaptation of that catchy theme from the horror flick Halloween. Nice touch, guys. What follows is another melodically charged, technically proficient death metal album from these dependable if not exactly groundbreaking Swedes. Highlights like "Hellborn," "Nightwatcher," and "Another Side" are original enough to demand respect for the band's abilities, both as players and musicians, but also sound familiar enough to elicit broad smiles and irresistible head-banging -- can you really ask for anything more? Chances are the group is a bit too conventional -- and even cheesy at times -- to ever climb to the top of the towering Scandinavian metal heap, but consistently fine outings like Wicked Is My Game may ultimately earn Raise Hell its own measure of respect as a career band.
