This powerful live, double CD documents Vital Information's performances in USA, Canada, Australia and Europe in 1998-1999 and is packed with raw excitement, innovative soloing, and heavy doses of blues, bebop, fusion, swing and funk! Steve Smith on drums, Frank Gambale on guitar, Tom Coster on Hammond B-3 organ and accordion, and Baron Browne on bass, are the renaissance men in this great quartet. Together, they surpass the excitement generated by their previous award-winning release, Where We Come From, with great improvisations and new versions of their classics. "The Perfect Date," "Over and Out," "Europa," and John Coltrane's "Mr. P.C." form the centerpiece of the 17-track CD along with the banter between musicians, which captures the set's good-time vibe. The group included two studio bonus tracks, one being an awesome remake of the Jack McDuff/Joe Dukes classic, "Soulful Drums." The band also spotlights a new sound on "Swamp Stomp," a tune rhythmically rooted in New Orleans jazz and zydeco. With this CD, Vital Information does a great job of offering audiences their vital experiences from around the globe and offers the listener an excellent way to expand their appreciation of many musical styles.
