Editorial Reviews

The play list for this album of lullabies includes a wide gamut of selections from scores from film, musical stage, and opera all caressingly sung by Mary VanArsdel backed by celestial harp, guitar, and a plethora of instruments created by Ron Abel's magic synthesizer. The subtitle to this album is "Lullabies for children and adults with voice and orchestration." So it's the view of the performers and producers that adults can be well served by this soothing music sung by the classically trained VanArsdel in solo or in duet with herself created through the wizardry of overdubbing. And, in fact, the music is pretty and church-like, so reverent are the arrangements. Sometimes it gets a bit heavy, such as with "Barcarolle" from Jacques Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman. But then there is "When You Wish Upon a Star," one of the purest melodies ever written, and "Angels on Your Pillow," both of which should have a pacifying effect on both children and adults. This is truly a suitable album for small children and will likely lull them to sleep. As for adults, don't play it unless you are planning to doze off. Recommended for children and adults in various stages of insomnia. Dave Nathan, All Music Guide
