Editorial Reviews

Composed by Steve Nieve (longstanding keyboardist for Elvis Costello) with a libretto by Muriel Teodori (Nieve's partner), the adventurous music theater piece Welcome to the Voice portrays an opera-obsessed steelworker's attempts to seduce a young diva. The piece's subtitle -- "A Work About Unlikely Encounters" -- is reflected by the diverse cast of performers, ranging from popsters Sting and Elvis Costello to opera star Barbara Bonney and the Brodsky Quartet. Robert Wyatt, Sara Fulgoni, Nathalie Manfrino, and Amanda Roocroft fill out the roster of singers, while Nieve on keyboards, Sting on bass guitar, and woodwind and percussion players join the Brodskys for this unique project.
