About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

While many of Weezer's legions of fans grew justifiably concerned that the band had stumbled into a blind alley on 1997's overly testosterone-laden Pinkerton, those worries are, to a large extent, dispelled by this sharp, wry return to form. Too casual to live up to any "four years in the making" banner, Weezer's third album is an avowed return to the band's punk-pop roots -- a fact that's emphasized by the decision to reprise the self-titling of the smash debut that spawned hits like "Buddy Holly." Nothing here is quite as unaffectedly loopy, but there are simple, undeniable hooks to spare, like the ones that poke through the tongue-in-cheek stoner anthem "Hash Pipe" and the pulsing mosh-pit ditty "Knockdown Dragout." Frontman Rivers Cuomo still has a bit too much on his mind, as evidenced by the overcaffeinated "Glorious Days," but rather than moan in angst-ridden despair, he's more likely to shrug off his problems with a quick flip of the bird and a smart-aleck remark. And since everybody likes a class clown better than a Gloomy Gus, it's probably safe to say that Weezer is back on track when it comes to winning friends and influencing fellow geeks. July 12, 2005: Not really one of my favorite albums by Weezer, but hits like "Hash Pipe", "Island in the Sun", "Photograph", and "Crab" are great. The other songs, however, don't stand out much, but its pretty good nonetheless.
