Editorial Reviews

The third and last of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's experimental albums to be released within a one-year period, Wedding Album, like Unfinished Music, No. 1: Two Virgins, was in some ways more notable for its packaging than for its content. It came in a box containing a facsimile of the Lennons' wedding certificate and a photograph of a piece of wedding cake. The record itself contained two selections, one of which consisted of nearly 25 minutes of Yoko Ono's wailing, while the other, "John and Yoko," featured the two, one in each stereo speaker, calling out the other's name for more than 22 minutes. Employing such limited lyrics, Lennon is the more expressive, Ono the more penetrating. [The 1997 CD reissue adds three bonus tracks, all sung by Ono: "Who Has Seen the Wind?" (the B-side of Lennon's "Instant Karma"), "Listen, the Snow Is Falling" (the B-side of "Happy Xmas"), and a previously unreleased version of "Don't Worry Kyoko."] William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

August 18, 2004: Yes, 'The Wedding Album' is one of those first few John Lennon albums that amounted to little more than a curiosity, and something to point to on your record collection shelf if you were a Beatles completist who had to have EVERY LITTLE THING released that said 'the Beatles' or any of the members' name in the credits. On (the former LP) side one, you get John & Yoko saying (and moaning, and screaming) each other's name for 24 minutes. Considering how Lennon only a few years prior to this release gave the world "Ticket to Ride", "In My Life" and "Strawberry Fields Forever", you can imagine the reaction of the poor sucker who bought this LP back then, probably never made it to side two (if he made it a few minutes of side one, that would've been impressive). But in fact, on side 2, the track "Amsterdam" does contain one of the more interesting bits of conversation with John & Yoko regarding political protesting and activism, which is as relevant today as it was in 1969. If you need a reason to get 'The Wedding Album', that would be it, I would suggest (and the lovely Yoko tune "Who Has Seen the Wind")
