About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Obsessed with carnality as he is, it was only a matter of time before Jason Mraz realized that it's better to sound sexy than to blather about it incessantly. This monumental moment arrives on his third album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, easily his sleekest collection of sounds and his only album to contain a suggestion of seduction within its grooves. Actually, We Sing is Mraz's only album to actually groove, as he sets down his acoustic guitar for much of the album and rides along on smooth rhythms partially indebted to '80s blue-eyed soul by Hall & Oates and Steve Winwood -- in that sense, the album recalls John Mayer's Continuum -- but he relies more heavily on Thriller, mixing it up with some modern neo-soul that gives this a surprisingly soulful sound. Mraz can glide on these surfaces, leaning on the gentle art of insinuation instead of goosing his paramour, but old habits die hard: it's only a matter of time before he punctures the seduction by scatting sophomorically, slipping in juvenile come-ons ("You make my slacks tight"), or stuttering manic syncopations on "The Dynamo of Volition." Mraz is also prone to terminal cuteness, drafting in a kids chorus to close out the coda of "Coyotes" and mewling out phrases like "always a goody doer," and while these are often so close-miked and forthright they're hard to ignore, they're also just not as prevalent as they were on the icky Mr. A-Z. Also, they're cleverly camouflaged beneath that gossamer gloss, typified by the quite catchy "Butterfly," whose Quincy Jones-styled horns disguise his mildly queasy oral sex puns. Mraz's lyrics don't stand up to such close scrutiny -- something the McCartney-esque, perhaps autobiographical divorce ballad "Love for a Child" ("Was it my mom who put dad out on his ass/Or the other way around") makes plain -- but the nice thing about the soulful shimmer of We Sing is that it's so slick that it's easy to ignore the gibberish spilling out of Mraz's mouth and just enjoy the sunny, easy sound. A little different than I was expectingby hbrush

May 02, 2009: I'd heard "Lucky" (the duet w/Colbie Caillait) and "I'm Yours" so I was expecting a lot of low-key, laid-back tracks. Instead, it's really pretty jazzy. It's not bad, I just wasn't really expecting all the swank.

Jason Mraz has this ability to bring out the best of yourself. I find myself looking at life in a moby Liane_Mraz

April 10, 2009: This 2 CD/DVD has not left my cd player or dvd player since I purchased it. I recommend that everyone who wants the cd should definitely buy the CD/DVD version. It is so worth every dime, I would've paid more for it. Every song on the cd is so unique and different. He makes you laugh. He makes you smile through your tears. He's sexual in a way that doesn't offend you, yet you find yourself thinking "wow this song is hot!" He doesn't use dirty words. And he is just so cute with his voice. And then the 2nd cd are all songs from live shows - he should never put down his guitar!!

On the DVD you get a full live concert and then you can watch a documentary of him in Europe and see him perform in different places (like he put on a mini concert in someones backyard with just the persons friends and family). He documents everything too (either through video cameras or polaroid pictures or funny stories).. Because of him, I now take polaroid pictures. He says everyone is so quick to judge a digital picture these days and its too easy to just delete it and take another. Everyone should be a little more like Jason Mraz - I believe the world would be a happier place! seriously!!

You learn unique little things about him in the dvd (like he enjoys learning magic and likes to juggle). He makes you want to be happy and enjoy the things around you like the way he does. He is unlike any other artist out there.. You can't label him. I find myself thinking "What would Jason do?" haha. He finds peace within himself and I feel that he's not so out of reach the way other artists make themselves. As in.. he is down on the ground with the rest of us while other celebs are sitting up high and out of reach on their pedastals. His songs calm you down and relax you as well.. You will never see him upset, or complaining, or wishing for something different. You forget you don't actually know him even though you feel like you do.

You also get a little preview of his book called "A Thousand Things" and its all of his polaroid pictures he's taken.. its so awesome!!
