September 20, 2001: 1968 was a tumultuous year. War, riots, protests, and assassinations. Upheaval was every place you looked. This album, recorded in November of '68, shows the opposite extreme of the human condition. In one hand we had discord, strife, and conflict, in the other, demonstrated in Studio Hamburg where this was recorded, both men and women alike came together to make an incredible, beautiful sound. This record, made toward the end of Bert's romantic period, demonstrated that harmony could indeed be achieved. Released in Europe in the spring of '69 as ''One Lonely Night'', it was the first BK album to fully feature woodwind player Herb Geller, here playing the alto and bass flute. Herb, from LA, played with the Maynard Ferguson band, among others. A great compliment to Werner Gutterer, who sits in the trumpet soloists' chair on this album. Seven of the eleven tunes on the original LP are Kaempfert/Rehbein originals, the last track, 'Our Street Of Love' alone is worth the price of this CD. I don't think in pop music history, a group of human beings made as wonderful a sound as the last note of that song. This disc has 5 bonus tracks, previously released on Polydor's Kaempfert ''Good Life Music'' series but never in North America. Most of these extra tracks appear to be recorded for the 'Warm And Wonderful'' lp with the exception on ''At The End Of Our Love''. Bert breaks the mold with this terrific, deep film-noir piece that is worth the price of this CD itself.
