April 06, 2007: I am absolutely sure Jimmy Page is the NUMBER ONE ROCK GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL - PERIOD, no Clapton, no Hendrix, no Dicky Betts - Page is it. And Robert Plant - well no one can cop that voice - even now. This cd could've been a contender if they let Page do the engineering and not Steve Albini - he was great with Nirvana but he just doesn't get that folky, lilting hauntingly heavy misty sound that made Zep the greatest band of all. His majour flaws are that some of the guitar dubs sound a bit overcompressed, and he tends to flatten Plant's warm and soulful voice. But not to worry these songs are remarkably strong, and the rhythm section albeit could never come close to Zeps - is strong and competent enough. I like the lack of extra session people on here, a choice deliberately made to keep it as pure to Page and Plant as possible and I love the many layers Page colours the songs with. If ever a man was one with a guitar - well...there you have it - check out "Most High", "Please Read the Letter" for starts and the absoultely brillant title track! These songs sound as fresh and cool now as they did 9 years ago. Next time let the boys engineer their own cd, and by the way when is there gonna be a next time?

March 11, 2003: This is a very folk one. The tracks are peaceful except from "Burning Up". There are very good tracks "Upon a Golden Horse", "Shining in the Light", "Most High" and very very touching "Please Read the Letter". The vocals are almost as good as they we're in 70's.
