About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Though he's been working out of L.A. for the past three decades, there's still a little bit of Mississippi mud in Terry Evans's singing voice. It's evidenced in the gruff, gospel edge on the title cut of WALK THAT WALK, the plaintive soul of the inspirational "Don't Give Up," and the possessed growl of "Dancin' with Your Belly Up." A longtime backup singer with Ry Cooder, Evans has lots of friends from the California recording scene: Cooder, drummer Jim Keltner, harpist John "Juke" Logan, and keyboardist Jeff Alviani join him in the studio. The instrumental sound is lean and rootsy, allowing Evans' to use a harder vocal sound than on his previous releases. That combined with the reflective nature of Evans's original material makes WALK THAT WALK sound closer to old-timey gospel than contemporary blues. Roberta Penn, Barnes & Noble
