The latest in a succession of young, camera-friendly tenors who deliver romantic pop with operatic pipes, Vittorio may be the most gifted "popera" singer to come along since Andrea Bocelli hit it big. He's so smooth, in fact, that he turned down an invitation from Simon Cowell to join the sensational all-male quartet Il Divo, aiming instead to make it as a solo act. If this self-titled debut is any indication, we'll be hearing a lot more from this talented Italian crooner. The program hits the usual notes: pulling together lushly produced, ardently emotional ballads in Italian, Spanish, and English; spicing the mix with Latin rhythms on "Magia de Amor," "Fuerte," and "Querida"; and adding dashes of classic Broadway and opera tunes with "Maria" and "Butterfly Forever." A shout-out to Stevie Wonder, by way of an Italian version of "All in Love Is Fair," and a duet with the Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger on "You Are My Miracle" fill out the tenor's tour through crossover country. In lesser hands, it might seem like a retread of an over-familiar formula. But Vittorio has the expressive élan and vocal goods -- including gorgeous, soft high notes -- to make it all sound fresh again. EJ Johnson, Barnes & Noble
