First of all, anything pertaining to Hildegard Von Bingen has God all over it! Being a great admirer of her writings and music, this cd really creates an atmosphere of holiness. It is well done and still brings her work credence, despite of the world music influence. This world music influence does not always work with me because it tends to make a holy work sound like a pagan work. This cd did not do that in my opinion and I am glad. I don't want to feel like I am walking into a Buddha shrine when I am looking for God...God is all over this cd, as He was in Hildegard's life! Every song is awesome! I have had this cd for years and it still brings it home for me!

This stirring collaboration--across continents, cultures and centuries--matches the songs of 12th century abbess Hildegard von Bingen, sung by Sister Germaine Fritz and Emily Van Evera, with the complimentary accompaniments of a modern American composer. When Richard Souther first heard a recording of Hildegard?s song ?Vision? (O Euchari in Leta Via), it left him reeling. ??It was like something turned on inside me when I heard it,? he later said. `I was hearing all these other colors and rhythms in my head, and I had to put it on tape.? [This album] is the result of that powerful encounter.? Hildegard?s soaring melodies obviously stand on their own, but Souther?s innovative electronic accompaniments--alternately questing, driving, contemplative and brooding--add new magic that speaks to modern sensibilities while still respecting the source. The result may not have been one that Hildegard would have imagined, but then again, she herself was an artist who yielded to her own, unique inspirations, challenging and transcending the boundaries of her time. I think that she would be delighted that her work not only survives and is loved, but continues to inspire the creativity of new artists so many centuries after her passing.
