March 15, 2006: For starters, this is a good albumn. The instrument mix is great, and there is a great veriety of the heavy-to-soft spectrum. Usually, by my standards, there has to be at least 3 stand-out songs to make an album a 5-star. The best on this albumn would have to be Amhran, Farwell Proud Men, and New Found Land, all of which are standouts. The first, Amhran, features an almost Enya-esque new-age feel, that lulls one into imagry of the blue seas, grean hills and grey skies of Northern Europe. The other two I mentioned both have the (fittingly) Nordic Pride feel, Farewell Proud Men being the heavier of the two. The rest of the albumn is really good, but not anything that jumps out instantly on a first listen. In relation to other groups, this is much more pop-oriented than, say, Therion or Tristania's "Beyond the Veil," which makes it very accessable to those who are only just being introduced to the goth/euro-scandinavian metal scene. The female vocals, which consist of the bulk of the lyrics, are absolutely beautiful, with the accents of the occasional male growls to ensure the powerful feel of the Viking spirit... or something like that. Another plus is the plentiful, yet seemingly subliminal use of back-up orchestrations.

September 04, 2005: this cd is really well put together. some of the songs sound the same at first, but you'll find out theyre not. this group is a lot softer than most other goth groups (unexpected from atrocity members).
