    About this Artist

    Editorial Reviews

Veteran blues singer Victoria Spivey teams up with trombonist Big Bill Bissonnette's Easy Riders Jazz Band for this successful and often-romping effort. Actually, Spivey is on just six songs, doing her best on such numbers as "Sister Kate," "See See Rider," "Careless Love," and "Mama's Gone Goodbye." The other seven selections are instrumentals recorded a year later, giving the erratic but spirited trumpeter Fred Vigorito, Bissonnette, and clarinetist Sammy Rimington an opportunity to dig into a variety of standards, including "Four or Five Times," "That Teasin' Rag" (which is the main strain of "The Original Dixieland One-Step"), and "Tin Roof Blues." Fans of New Orleans revival jazz will not mind the occasional missteps, for the spirit and drive of the music generally compensate during this fun set. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
