Editorial Reviews

How much delirious punky power pop does any one person need? Depending on your answer, The Very Best of the Boys may be just the right amount. Carefully combing through the Boys' back catalog, the compilation fulfills its mission by picking the best tracks from all four of the group's albums. The singles are all here, too, bar their 1980 cover of Arthur Alexander's "You Better Move On," where the band cheekily attempted to show up the Rolling Stones. Conveniently packaged chronologically, fans can follow their heroes from their first frenetic bursts of poppy punk, to their more measured strides across punky pop, and into the sunset of their expanding musical horizons. Nerveless, any Boys' fan will tell you that even this well thought out compilation can never replace the band's albums, and they'd be absolutely right. But as highlights go, Very Best is a winner.
