Vertie's Dream is Jones & Leva's first release for the Copper Creek label. Like their previous Rounder albums, Vertie's Dream is an inspired collection of Appalachian old-time music, combining original songs with arrangements of traditional material and a few cover tunes. Guitarist Carol Elizabeth Jones and fiddler James Leva are superb musicians and gifted vocalists, whether singing solo or combining in duet. Check Jones' vocal on the a cappella spiritual "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah" and the title track. And listen to the shape note singing piece "Minister's Farewell/Last of Callahan." This is brilliant, moving stuff. Jones and Leva have an absolutely uncanny feel for old-time music, a genre one must pursue with some vigor just to get a sense of the repertoire. The music requires distinctive vocal stylings and a considerable degree of musicianship, which happens to be an apt description of Jones & Leva. ~ Philip Van Vleck, All Music Guide All Music Guide
