August 13, 2004: I think this is the definitive recording of Verdi's Requiem. The absolutely superb choir and period instrument orchestra, the soloists (specially the soprano Luba Orgonasova) and the precise and energetic conducting of Gardiner make this an outstanding performance, far superior to Karajan's. Specially rewarding are the Dies irae and Tuba mirum (you feel it's really the end of the world), The Recordare, Offertorium, Agnus Dei and the magnificent fugal finale: Libera me.
