About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Donna Summer is more than just the Queen of Disco. With songs that throw back to the not-so-distant era of mirror-ball excess and a voice both resonant and ethereal, she's the master of bittersweet memories, as this live disc reveals. Although taped for VH1, there's nothing prepackaged about LIVE & MORE -- ENCORE! This lush, sentimental collection shows how fierce Summer's skills remain, and from the inconsolable disappointment of "Macarthur Park" to the heady celebration of "I Feel Love" her voice sounds as seamless as it did 20 years ago. Australian singing sensation Tina Arena joins her for a ripping rendition of "No More Tears," but Arena is no Streisand. What's timeless are the ten songs that were Top Ten hits for Summer ("Last Dance," "Bad Girls," "Hot Stuff," "On the Radio"). Three new cuts on the techno tip -- "My Life," the notable "I Will Go With You," and "Love Is the Healer" -- show that Summer remains contemporary, and if this recording's strength, heat, and groove factor foretell her ability to reign supreme in live performance, she's more than worthy of her crown. January 20, 2006: This set includes three new songs! Two of which are studio recordings, the #1 Dance Chart Hits, I Will Go With You & Love is a Healer. The third song, My Life, offers us a glimpse into the long-promised musical about Donna's career (Ordinary Girl). The Grammy nominated tune, I Will Go With You was for best dance recording of 1999! This CD is worth it just for the three new songs, but the live performances truly highlight Donnas forever vibrant, soulful vocal chops! Check it Out as well as the DVD of the highest rated VH-1 special! Worth every damn penny!!!!!!

January 10, 2004: This CD presents Donna Summer with her most matured vocal to date. This greatest hits 'live' package reaffirms Donna's place as an important vocal talent to be heard. She breezes through many of her most popular hits over the years. Sorely missing is 'Love to Love You, Baby' and 'The Wanderer'; two songs I've yet to see performed in a 'live' setting. Hmm? The best part of the CD is the two new "More" tracks. Donna delivers a superb vocal on 'I Will Go With You', and reminds us how powerful her voice truly is. It is reminiscent of Donna's eye-opening, jaw-dropping comparable vocal she delivered on the original 'Live and More' album with 'MacArthur Park' Yes, she hits the high note on 'I Will Go With You', even after so many years. The track 'Love is the Healer' experiments with different sounds and vocals, and Donna once again delivers, proving she is more versatile a vocalist than ever before. 'Love is the Healer' ends the 'Encore' CD and convinces me that Donna Summer has renewed energy to once again challenge herself and give consumers nothing less than pure perfection.
