About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

It should surprise absolutely no one, but Rammstein's CD/DVD live set Volkerball is one for the fan, but what a gluttonous and delicious feast of industrial Teutonic metal they're in for. First off, there's the visual element on the DVD. Not that Rammstein's studio albums are lacking but you have to see their intense stage show to truly appreciate them. Fritz Lang's grungy vision of the future mixes with a stately Laibach kind of detachment while flame throwers, explosions, and hundreds of lights get abused with such abandon that Kiss must be jealous. The DVD features a full show from 2005 in Nimes, France plus shorter versions of the same set from England and Japan plus a quick snippet from a 2004 gig in Russia. The cameras do a wonderful job of capturing everything important, Rammstein do a fine job of delivering their dramatic vision, and the producers do a wonderful of overdubbing (or maybe Rammstein are really the tightest band to ever inhabit the earth). The casually curious will find the DVD too overstuffed with redundancy and the CD no different than the studio albums, but for fans this is beyond essential. [A 2 CD/DVD 'Special Edition' version was also released.] David Jeffries, All Music Guide

November 30, 2006: This has to be the best gift that a very vibrant band can give their fans. Voelkerball is comprised of the Rammstein concert in the ancient city of Nimes, France in a open-air, Roman amphitheater venur. From start to finish, the over-all aura of the DVD is breath-taking and so Wagnerian. I doubt that that amphitheater has undergone such a show since the time of the gladiators... Maybe Rammstein are the modern-day Gladiators of our time that is, they know how to put on an amazing show that'll keep you wanting more. The varied talents of the six members of Rammstein shine through gloriously on this dvd, as this is a highly anticipated live dvd. It was s anticipated, that this very item that your browsing was completely sold out a month before it was even released!!! This lead the Univeral Record company to reissue this Rammstein rarity in a greater number. I think that for a artist who puts much effort, spirit and wild energy towards their music, it is a really rewarding feeling when they can finally be recognized for their talent, effort and hard work, which I'd say is completely encompassed all throughout Voelkerball! :: So let us all take a glass of Champagne, drink it and throw the glass unto the floor ::
