About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Gary Allan's debut, Used Heart for Sale, is a competent set of neo-traditionalist country that occasionally comes to life, such as on the single "Her Man." Allan's best moments suggest that he is capable of more. Thom Owens, All Music Guide

August 29, 2001: Gary Allan has a unique voice that I have never heard before. You feel like you are part of his songs he sings. No country artist has made feel like that before. I never get tired of listening to his CD's over and over. Move over Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, and Tim McGraw and etc.........Gary Allan is here to stay. Most under-rated country singer.

July 26, 2000: Gary Allan is a unique singer who rarely writes his own material, but seems to be growing artistically with each album. Like many other country artists who came into their own in the late '90's, Allan seems torn between his traditionalist roots and the corporate commercialism that demands a crossover power-ballad smash a la Shania Twain or Garth Brooks. Allan's first CD, ''Used Heart For Sale'' suffers from a daunting psychosis- Allan is at his best when he follows his roots and twangs through Buck Owens/ George Jones territory; unfortunately, half of Allan's debut capitalizes on the prog-country balladry that has swamped most CW performers.
