<I>Use Your Illusion II is more serious and ambitious than I. Featuring no less than four songs that run over six minutes, II is heavy on epics, whether it's the charging funk metal of "Locomotive," the antiwar "Civil War," or the multi-part "Estranged." Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

December 04, 2004: These are my ratings and opinions on all the songs on this album. 1 - Civil War - A really good song that starts slow but then starts rockin. The song is almost perfect but the end gets repetative and the piano in it is kind of stupid. 8/10 2 - 14 years - A good rock song that's fun to listen to. 7/10 3 - Yesterdays - A light and more happy GNR song that I really like. 9/10 4 - Knockin' on Heavens Door - A great and hard rockin' rendition of a Bob Dylan classic. 10/10 5 - Get In The Ring - I really did like the music in this song, but the lyrics and all the swear words ruin it. 3/10 6 - Shotgun Blues - This is another fast paced rocker in which i really enjoy the music but the lyrics were bad and just plain annoying, the lyrics ruined it. 5/10 7 - Breakdown - Once again, another good and fast paced rocker, and the lyrics weren't that bad! 7/10 8 - Pretty Tied Up - Decent music with lyrics you hope your kids won't understand. The booklet contains a drawing for this song which i find disturbing. 5/10 9 - Locomotive - A really great hard rock song. Good music and the lyrics were O.K., the vocals were pretty good. 8/10 10 - So Fine - A light GNR song that, although i know some people don't like it, I think is one of the best songs on the album. 9/10 11 - Estranged - A good hard rockin' tune. A lot of people seem to like this one. 9/10 12 - You Could Be Mine - My favorite song on the album. This song is very hard and (in my opinion) everyhing about it is good. 10/10 13 - Don't Cry - A pretty good light song. I prefer the other lyrics more but it's not a big deal. 8/10 14 - My World - This song is really dumb. It was all done by Axl and has a techno feel to it. 1/10
