About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Camp Lo's debut album is a refreshing fusion of hip-hop, soul, and jazz that manages to avoid most jazz-rap clichés while retaining street credibility. Uptown Saturday Night doesn't really break any new ground, yet it doesn't sound tired either, primarily because the rappers of Camp Lo have a deft, graceful rhythmic touch and their producers (including Ski and Trugoy tha Dove) are skilled musicians, capable of weaving funky sonic layers that never sound too spare or overloaded. In short, Uptown Saturday Night, even with its occasional dull patches, is a worthwhile debut. Leo Stanley, All Music Guide

February 25, 2005: I am so glad I was wathcin Throwback Thursday's on Tha Basement, because they showed videos from '97 and they aired a video by "Camp Lo" called, "Luchini AKA This Is It". When I heard it, I couldn't believe how much I liked it and I was wondering how I missed this song. I recognized pretty much every song or video, except for that song and that group. So I took note of the group and listened to the sample tracks. Man! I couldn't believe how I could go from track to track and enjoy each song without thinking, "that's okay, next". That is rare in this day to be able to like every track. I mean, of course I have my favorites. When I hear "Krystal Karrington", I think old school gangsta. I mean the guys who wore the suits, ties and hats. Then probably my favorite song, "Luchini" just reminds me of the good, chilled out life of the '70s. I see people dressed up in fly suits and dresses drivin' around in clean classics. Love "Killin 'Em Softly". When I hear "Coolie High" I think good make out song and then right after that you have another chilled out song so it doesn't ruin the vibe. lol. Get the cd okay!!

September 19, 2001: It was an album that should have went down in rap history of one of the greatest ever but was released I wouldnt say at the wrong time but a little bit head of its time due to the rap giants (Deathrow/Badboy) who was controlling the airwaves at the time of the albums release
