About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

On "These Words (I Love You, I Love You)," Natasha Bedingfield laments her inability to write a hit: "Tryin' to find the magic / Tryin' to write a classic," she sings, and, after turning to "Byron, Shelley and Keats" for inspiration, she gives up and decides to proclaim, simply, "I love you, I love you." And that's enough, because "These Words" contains all the magic of a classic pop single. Atop a sparse hip-hop beat layered with bursts of hornlike keyboards, Bedingfield's singsong vocals swing effortlessly and irresistibly -- think Destiny's Child or Kelly Clarkson or Nelly Furtado. Unwritten, the New Zealand–born Bedingfield's debut, was an immediate hit when it came out in 2004 in England, her adopted home (as was her brother Daniel's song "Gotta Get Thru This" a few years earlier), and it's no surprise. She balances au courant beats with pop smarts on "Single" and "Drop Me in the Middle," and she is equally adept rocking out on "If You're Gonna," fast-talking through the playful "Size Matters," and crooning seductively on "I Bruise Easily" and "Stumble" (one of several songs added or retooled for Unwritten's U.S. release). Bedingfield had a hand in writing all but one of Unwritten's 13 tracks, and while every song might not be a classic, each one contains plenty of magic. Steve Klinge, Barnes & Noble

July 16, 2009: You've probably heard the song "Unwritten" on shampoo commercials! That song is like an anthem for struggling writers!--or struggling creative people of any kind. Just do it!

The varied rhythms of the songs express different moods. Amazing what you can do with just an electronic accompaniment! (Which is why I gave sound quality a 4. I really prefer instruments.)

July 28, 2007: Natasha Bedingfield is sitting pretty on the Rock throne. I personally believe she is the best one out there. Her raspy, raw voice is so original. She cannot be duplicated. I luv, luv, luv her. I am highly anticipating getting her next album. Look for her name in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because it IS going to be there.
