Editorial Reviews

Unmitigated Audacity is a bootleg album, released by Frank Zappa without enhancement, and also available as part of the Beat the Boots! box set. It contains what sounds like an audience tape of a performance by Zappa and the Mothers at Notre Dame University on May 12, 1974, and it is notable mainly for including a set list largely consisting of songs originally heard on the first few Mothers albums -- "Hungry Freaks, Daddy" and "Let's Make the Water Turn Black," among others -- as played by a later lineup. This means, for example, that you get to hear George Duke sing "How Could I Be Such a Fool." That's a modest recommendation, however, for a poor-sounding recording. William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
